Robot Entertainment has been very busy at the studio since Phase II of Orcs Must Die! Unchained was launched a few short weeks ago. A new update to the closed beta has just launched and there's many exciting changes in store for beta participants that improve the user experience and flow of the game.

If you're familiar with Orcs Must Die! Unchained, you can read the detailed patch notes here.

Major changes are listed below:

  • Co-op is much easier to matchmake and PvP matchmaking produces far better matchups
  • The Dashboard layout is much improved
  • New Weavers (character abilities gained while leveling during a match) for Stinkeye and Gabriella
  • Games reward more in-game currency upon completion than previously
  • The new Iron and Runed Chests may now be purchased in the Store
  • Cliffside Clash map changes: there is now an escape route from the far side lane, and the Rift Guardian has been moved further forward
  • Rift Lightning now attacks minions and enemy Heroes who hang out too long in the enemy Rift room
  • Before the first wave spawns, gates are invulnerable and you can resell placed traps for a full refund to easier plan your defense layouts
  • Offensive heroes can only play one glyph per level
  • Added new Kill and Assist Callouts

There is also a great overview on what is new in the closed beta in the video below.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained is a wisecracking third-person multiplayer action game. Players control powerful heroes, summon deadly minions and place devious traps to attack and defend in a wild battle for fortress supremacy. For the first time in Orcs Must Die!, teams of players are responsible for both sides of the battle-building traps to stop the enemy assault AND summoning their own armies to lead against the enemy defense. Through this innovation, which combines Tower Defense and Multiplayer Online Battle Arena gameplay elements, Robot Entertainment created a new kind of game experience.
