Hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday! I was going to break this news yesterday, but I was knee deep in turkey, and to be honest, this is a bit depressing.

Last week, I talked about Marvel Heroes being taken offline at the end of the year. Well, if the reports are true, it came a lot sooner than expected. Instead of December 31st, Gazillion laid everyone off Friday. The day after Thanksgiving. Ouch.

Some employees have confirmed this via twitter, so it sounds like it’s the real deal. To add insult to injury, some employees are reporting that their medical insurance will be cancelled next week, and they won’t be getting their severance pay or paid time off. Players have been trying to get reimbursed for recent money spent on characters and costumes, but so far, there has been no word from Gazillion about any refunds. PC owners have had this game for a while, but console owners have only been playing for some months.

This is always a sad sight to see and although the game is admittedly flawed, I hate to see people laid off unexpectedly over a holiday.

Disney had this to say last week: “We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”
