Genetic Disaster, the newest cooperative "rogue-lite" action game from Team8 studios, promises tons of variety (65 weapons!) and the ability to couch co-op with up to four friends. On top of that, Genetic Disaster has you assuming the role of a poor, vicious little kitten, locked up by mad scientists and pissed off to the point of insanity. I like kitties so this is a big one for me.
Every level is procedurally generated and begins with you escaping your cage, ready to make a quick dash for safety from the mad mansion you're imprisoned in. Unfortunately, your bastion of safety is through levels full of murderous mutants who hate kitties. Diabolical! The level-difficulty adapts to how many friends you're playing with, which is pretty standard, but Team8 is using this feature as a major selling point. There are a variety of ridiculous ways that the game turns up the heat, so instead of just a generic, business as usual difficulty spike in the form of more enemy HP or less life/power-ups/pick-ups for you and your friends, Genetic Disaster has "lunar cycles" that change as you progress through the levels, which can activate any number of new ways to die. You'll have to contend with pinball-like bouncing bullets, exploding enemies, sudden activation of friendly fire, iceblocks plummeting from the skies and a number of other frenetic changes that will keep you on your toes and your death-count rising.
The game is in early access right now, and so far, it's getting pretty great feedback.
