The ridiculously named and abbreviated PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) is now available for Xbox One (console exclusive, fool!) This game was up for all kinds of awards this year (check out who won what, here) and they've got more than 24 million players worldwide. PUBG was a surprise, smash-hit for the PC, and now Xbox owners can see what all the fuss is about.
Set on the fictional island of Erangel, PUBG is a multiplayer, last-man-standing, battle royale shooter, where you start with nothing but your mitts and you've gotta gear up in a hurry. You drop out of a plane and rush off to find weapons and supplies, arm yourself real good, and throw down against up to 99 other players at a time. As the game is a last man standing affair, there is no second place, so you've gotta keep your finger on the trigger and an eye on your ammo, killing your way to better guns and strategic areas to keep the odds in your favor. PUBG has solo, duo and squad modes to suit anyone and everyone, there's a jumping/climbing system called "vaulting" on the current release map (pretty sure it's called that in real life, too), and some accessory and tracksuit options with the new cosmetic update.
Unfortunately, Digital Foundry has some preliminary notes on the Xbox release, and they've called the frame rates “absolutely dreadful”, saying that their playthrough had frame rates below 20 fps and at times, even lower. They noted that 30 fps is pretty much the best you're gonna get, and if you’re not playing on an Xbox One X, watch out, because it looks even worse.
Play at your own risk, or wait awhile and see if some patches or updates tighten things up a bit.
