I really hope this is good, but I am getting a creepy "Star Wars Kinect" vibe from it. I am praying I'm wrong, because this looks like it could be awesome, and also, it looks like kind of a work-out, which I could use.
Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is a trend-setter, since, as far as I know, this is the first game of its kind. A smartphone-powered augmented reality game for android and iOS, SW:JC looks like it's going to be a blast to play. You download the free app, put your phone into a tray and hook it up with a micro-USB to activate the helmet. The lightsaber is a replica of Luke Skywalker's/Rey's blade from the movie, and that alone, is badass. The saber weighs about a pound and a half, so it seems like it will have some heft and not feel like a piece of junk.
There are three modes included in the "experience": Lightsaber Battle, Strategic Combat and Holochess, and the modes are spread across five well-known locations: Naboo, Garel, Lothal, Hoth and Takodana. If that isn't enough, there's a free, upcoming expansion in January that will add more enemies to fight from the latest Star Wars flick. You know Kylo is going to be in there (well, you would assume), and I've been wanting to sock that crybaby in the face since his first scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Strategic Combat is a real-time-strategy battle simulation that lets you marshal the forces of the Republic, Rebel Alliance and the Resistance. You’re basically a general, moving troops, building defenses and calling in airstrikes in some big, epic battles. Fight the separatists, the Empire and the First Order, and bring some damned peace to the galaxy through mountains of bloodshed. You know how we get down in a galaxy far, far away. The Lightsaber Battle mode has you mixing it up and crossing sabers with big-time haters like Darth Maul, and then there’s the thrill-a-minute intensity of Holochess.
