This new RTS came out of nowhere, it looks like a cross between Age Of Empires and Warcraft (II or II, not WOW), and even though it's in early access, players are already flocking to it in droves, much like the zombie hordes you have to put down in the game.
Much like WarCraft 3, you begin with a sparse village, and a main hall that is responsible for collecting your resources. You have to build up your structures and forces to quell the zombie invasion heading your way. The zombies have their own AI, and react realistically to your actions; if you loudly clear out an area to take advantage of its resources, other zombies will hear the commotion and flock to your position. There is a ton of strategy involved (obviously, it's an RTS), and you have to intelligently amass and position your forces while foraging for wood, iron, oil and other resources, all while upgrading your buildings to make them more efficient and zombie-proof. You'll also need to build containment and defensive structures, like walls, gates, towers and lookout points. Things can take a turn in an instant, and a well-fortified, functional town can quickly be reduced to rubble by a large group of zombies. You have to think on your feet and keep your village safe from the undead apocalypse.
The game is already looking pretty amazing, and the devs claim that their world can handle up to 20,000 units at a time, which is impressive. Take a look at the trailer below to see what I'm talking about.
They Are Billions is out now on Steam in Early Access.
