I have extremely fond memories of shredding down the slopes, and getting smash-nasty on a bunch of flips and spins with this title. When I wasn't actually snowboarding in the winter, you could find me playing this game, getting amped up for the next time I would hit the mountain, then inevitably puss out and not try anything close to the tricks I was doing digitally. In short, this game was a straight classic for the Nintendo 64, and I always wondered why they didn't follow up and turn it into a true franchise.
I am pleased to announce that there is a glimmer of hope for 1080 fans. Nintendo recently filed a trademark for 1080° TenEighty. In the original title, it was written out this way, so the name isn't as strange as it first appears. Sure, sometimes companies lock up titles and do nothing, or sit on them forever, but it makes sense to bring the franchise back. It began in 1998, hit it big with gamers, then had a lesser known follow up in 2003 for the Gamecube called 1080° Avalanche, but while it was well-received (mostly), it didn't take off the way the original did.
I could see a new 1080 fitting in just fine on the Switch, and I hope they make use of the license. 1080 was kind of like Tony Hawk; anyone could have fun with it, but you had to really delve into the mechanics and practice to get good enough to make those insane stunts appear casual.
What do you think? Is it worth bringing this old favorite back, or should they just restart with something completely new?
