Announced last February, The Day After: Origins is now available on Steam’s Early Access. The Day After: Origins is an action and story-driven game, in which each decision you make involves irreversible consequences. Taking place in a North-American mining town after a sudden bacteriological attack, the adventure is playable both alone or online with a friend.
You assume the role of Noah Byers, a man who wakes up and realizes that his town is infected with some kind of bacterium and there is a full blown quarantine in effect, enforced by the military. Noah decides he has got to rescue his girl, Princess Peach, I mean, Allison, who has been missing since he woke up. As everything around him starts to crumble into insanity, Noah is all about grabbing that girl up and getting out of dodge, and he must find other survivors, shoot mutants in the face, and rescue Allison.
The story of the game is officially described as being "about nostalgia, determination, friendship, regrets, love and danger. It relates to survivors confronting their own past, struggling between their new life and the unsolved businesses of their old one. Even when the world collapses, some secrets just can’t be put to rest."
The Day After: Origins' alpha serves as an introduction into the game's universe, showing off some of the main features, narrative decisions, the open world, fights against stage 1 & 2 mutants and... firetruck management. Huh. Maybe you're a volunteer.
According to the developers, the game will be available after about a year on Early Access, but the team at Coconut Games said they will prioritize the game's quality over the schedule of the launch.
