Koei Tecmo America just announced some new multiplayer features and the next set of playable characters for their giant-killing title, Attack On Titan 2. In addition to their co-operative online modes from the previous game, there's an all-new competitive PvP mode called "Annihilation", where players fight against each other for high scores on the leader boards.
The Annihilation mode consists of two teams of four scouts competing for the highest score within a set time limit. Killing the gigantic Titans is the best way to gain individual points and climb the leader board, but working together is also key, as it can earn the team a Chain Bonus by destroying each Titan body part before dropping them. Building and defending bases is also an efficient way of securing points, with select areas on the map allowing for base development, while opposing teams will attempt to take them down. If you want points and props, you'll need to defend your territory.
There are a few new ways to stop your opponents' progress and turn the tide of the game. Two new items you can use to this end are numbing bullets, which cause temporary paralysis, and paint bullets, which will briefly cover your opponents screen and mini-map. As a match draws to a close in the last minutes, the stakes raise, and any last minute points you earn are doubled. During the last minutes, players have to work together to get as many clutch points as possible before the game ends.
The online insanity doesn't end there, as players are able to tackle missions co-operatively in both Story Mode and Scout Missions. In both these modes, players can get a band of friends together and work in tandem to take down the Titans threatening the populace. The current character roster is over 30, including your own custom scout or one of the recently released additions: Keith Sadies, Kitz Woermann, Dhalis Zachary and Dot Pyxis.
