Forged Battalion is hoping that their "innovative and dynamic new take" on the real-time strategy genre hits big, and you can see for yourself right now in Early Access.
It's got a good shot, especially when you consider the Command & Conquer veterans that make up Petroglyph. They know their way around the genre, and a lot of it will sound relatively similar to series veterans, but Petroglyph is promising a twist. Players build and customize their own unique faction and fight in a variety of skirmish, solo and multiplayer battles. You create and customize your emerging faction and create evolving factories and units, while gaining and spending the resources you gain from each battle. The difference between C&C and this is a focus on unit customization. Units come in infantry, light vehicles, heavy vehicles, and aircraft, and the player can take a maximum of four units per class into a given game, so you if you're not careful, you can hamstring yourself very easily. The tech tree allows you some options and customization, from armor to weapons and special abilities, making your faction unique and (hopefully) deadly.
The Early Access period for Forged Battalion is planned to run for several months, with regular content updates. Read more here, and watch the trailer below to see how it all comes together.
