Lucid Games just announced their official PS4 Closed Beta for Switchblade, a new vehicluar action game for PS4, developed using the Unreal 4 Engine.
There hasn't been a ton of vehicle combat games since the days of Twisted Metal, but these guys and girls have a solid pedigree, with team members that have worked on Project Gotham Racing, Blur and Geometry wars. Switchblade is an arena-based 5 on 5 vehicular shooter that marries high-speed combat with an ever-shifting array of strategic choices. You can seamlessly switch between heavily armed vehicles at any time to create near endless tactical choices, so you can chase someone down in a speed-demon, then swap to a lumbering battle-wagon to take them out, while your teammates switch to healers and artillery vehicles to run support.
Creative Director at Lucid games, Craig Howard, had this to say about what they are trying to do with Switchblade.
'We wanted to push the concept of vehicle combat games further than anything out there. The idea of a vehicle sport where strategy, as well as reactions, was key to winning and our focus as we feel compelling sports need both of these."
Switchblade is set to be released as a Free-to-Play title on PS4 in late 2018.
