Enhancing and expanding the original Insurgency formula, Insurgency: Sandstorm has upgraded graphics, new gameplay possibilities, improved immersion and new co-op game modes. The teaser trailer below follows a wounded fighter as he stumbles through a full on assault, shooting people brutally in the head and taking to the streets in a variety of vehicles. There are an array of weapons on display here as well, from pistols to machine guns and RPGs, and each weapon has unique ballistic calculations that take real-life factors into consideration, like bullet drop and penetration power. Real-time soldier decisions have been added and expanded as well, like dropping magazines for faster reload speed, kicking in a door vs easing it open, quick twitch aiming and more.
You'll be able to participate in large-scale battles with up to two teams of 16 players, and use artillery barrages, helicopter gunships, re-purposed commercial drones, air strikes, and land transport vehicles that you can get behind the wheel and roll in. Maps are bigger this time around as well, with interiors to breach and high-value objectives to obtain and control with your team. Each map's size and play areas are adjusted specifically for each game mode, or you can get some practice in with bots.
Teamwork and objective play is the name of the game here, and those of you who like to hog all the kills and go it alone are going to have trouble. Character customization, ranked matchmaking, and many more features have been added to Insurgency: Sandstorm, and we'll have more details and features as they become available.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.
