Yes! This is exactly what I was hoping for from Injustice 2! Watch this badass trailer, which will have your 90's nostalgia working overtime. Each turtle is introduced with a sweet ass approach, with Leonardo meditating, Donnie doing flips, Raph pulling his sais from the corpse of an android and Mikey riding a jet-powered skateboard. They each sound perfect, have character appropriate lines and jokes, and each look like a fully realized fighter, not just the same model with skin-swaps.
But how is this going to work? In the trailer, we see Raph jumping in to toss sais during Leo's fight, and there are a bunch of little ways the game appears to be incorporating the 4 brother team. Warner Brothers clarified how this will go down in-game:
By equipping one of four accessories - swords, bo staff, nunchakus or sais - players will be able to change their character loadout to play as Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. Each will wield their own unique move sets, character powers and special moves. In online and tournament modes where specific loadouts are unavailable, players will be able to select each individual Turtle from the character select screen.
That sounds like the smartest way to do it, with players feeling like they are using the heroes in tandem, without their opponent feeling like they are at a group disadvantage. The Ninja Turtles will be available on Feb. 13 for players with Injustice 2’s Ultimate Edition, Ultimate Pack or Fighter Pack 3, or you can purchase them as a standalone buy for $9.99 on February 20th.
Man... that shellshock finisher? Awesome.
