Frostpunk is a city-building-survival-sim from 11 bit Studios, and it is looking icily brutal. In control of the last human outpost on earth, you have to build up society, both literally and figuratively, by creating structures and establishing customs and laws. In Frostpunk, heat means life, and every decision you make will take a toll, either on something or someone. This new video shows off a hulking, steampunk-esque robot that can work around the clock, unlike the freezing human meat sacks we call humans. But giant steampunk robots might scare your people. Question is, do you care? Can you afford to?
This breakdown below promises a pretty interesting game, since you have to instill hope, work your people to the bone, make the hard choices only a leader can, explore the frozen tundra for supplies, sighs of life and more. Should you force a nine year old to work? Should you toss a dying survivor into the cold, or spend precious resources trying to keep a doomed man alive? It sounds like a despondent, frantic grind for survival, and that sounds good to me.
Maintain hope- Survival is about hope and the will to live. Your ability to spark and maintain these two in your citizens will be a determinant factor for success.
Make and enact law - The only method of continued survival is to ensure survivors abide by the same rules and share similar beliefs. Establishing laws and customs will be a crucial factor shaping your society.
Weigh your choices - Will you allow child-labour? How will you treat the sick and wounded? Choices in Frostpunk are never straightforward, and decisions come at a price.
Explore - The world covers not only bits of the past but also the potential means to secure the future of your people.
Frostpunk promises to be a juggling act between the "challenge of tactical planning and a test of your own humanity", and will be available on Steam and other digital retailers for Windows and Mac in March of 2018.
