Shiny claims to have an intricate and compelling story, and it better, since Shiny is a game that discourages violence and is all about helping others. Not to sound jaded, but at the end of the day, it's a lot easier to have a plot that runs along the lines of "X did Y to you. Now, you must kill X." It's a tried a true formula, it's straightforward, and at the end of the day, if the gameplay is good enough, you forget that you are punching out 2,000 thugs because they "stole" your girlfriend.
Shiny, a 2D platformer where you control an altruistic robot, on the other hand, has no stolen princess to recover, no murdered father to avenge. The premise of Shiny is simple and true to life. Basically, the idea of the game is that life and energy are precious resources, and should be treated as such. Every move Kramer (the robot-protagonist) makes consumes energy, which can be replenished by collecting batteries or finding generators. You must collect enough energy to keep Kramer and his friends alive long enough to escape planet Aurora before it crashes into the sun. So, pretty much the story of our lives in about 20 years! Yay, realism!
There are some cool upgrades here, from jetpacks to personal forcefields, and the game has a bright and beautiful art style. Take a look at some gameplay action in the trailer below.
