Today, independent Brazilian developer Massive Work Studio formally announced Dolmen, their new, "terrifying action RPG", which will make its debut at this year's GDC.

Combining futuristic Sci-Fi and Lovecraftian cosmic horror, Dolemen is in the mold of Dark Souls, Bloodborne and The Surge. You play as a lone astronaut left stranded on a forgotten planet called Revion Prime. This world is surrounded by billions of victims of a great war, their corpses making up a kind of floating graveyard, warning others away. Being alone on Revion Prime is like having been forgotten by life itself. With no answers as to how you got there, or what happened to your crew, your journey begins in the dark.

Sounds pretty friggin creepy, eh? The key to survival in Dolmen is centered around adaptation and exploration. Your gear must be harvested from the finite resources available on the planet, and you'll have to craft armor, weapon upgrades and consumables as you try to survive, while powering your space suit with Reactors to gain new attributes. The many kinds of eldritch horrors and abominable beings that populate the planet react dynamically and differently when attacked. By gaining experience you can level up your character to fit your playstyle and improve your chances of survival. Revion Prime is an unforgiving place, and much like Yharnam and Lordran, it sounds like you'll learn that the hard way.

It will be interesting to see how they attempt to differentiate their game from the Souls/Borne series, especially since The Surge has already covered the whole, "Dark Souls in space" angle.

Dolmen will debut at this year's GDC.
