In a move that shocked no one, but was reportedly said to be "not an easy decision" by the game’s creative director, Julian Gerighty, a logo for the sequel to The Division popped up on Ubisoft’s servers this morning, officially confirming the sequel to the 2016 shooter. That doesn't mean that fans of the original will be left out in the cold, however. A couple of new patches, 1.8.1 and 1.8.2 are coming, which Gerighty joking called "Strawberry and Parsnip".
“Strawberry” will release in April and feature two existing missions, Amherst and Grand Central, which have been retooled for Legendary difficulty. “Parsnip” will release in June and will do the same for two other already existing missions, in addition to adding challenges called "shields" that will unlock content in the Division 2.
Ubisoft had the following to say in an official release (read the announcement in its entirety here):
"We're thrilled to announce that we are working on Tom Clancy's The Division 2, and that development will be led by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Bucharest. The Division 2 will be powered by an updated version of the Snowdrop engine that enables us to realize our ambitions for the sequel, but more importantly, we're also taking everything we learned over the past two years and applying it towards the sequel to make sure we get it right."
The Division 2 will debut in June of 2018 at E3.
