Atari has been dropping hints about a new console for a long time, but beyond tantalizing hints, there hasn't been a lot of concrete info (or any, really). Unfortunately, today isn't really much different. Atari has officially changed the name from "Ataribox" to "Atari VCS" with a throwback look that is clearly inspired by the original Atari. The look and the news that there will be a brand new Atari console has a lot of people excited, but you have to ask, what are we excited about?
I know how the news cycle works, where sometimes sites are just "hyping hype", because there isn't any concrete info, and this seems to be the case here. We have no specs, no stats, no games, no nothing, really, except the name "Atari" and a picture of the system. All we actually know is that the system will have retro and new games, and it's built on the Linux OS.
It's always exciting to hear about a new system, but in this case, the news has almost exclusively been about delays, and little else.
No release date has been set for the new system (duh).
