Star Wars Battlefront II just got a spankin new update, and it does something about that loot box situation everyone is so happy about. You know, how basically you have to quit your life and devote it to BFII if you ever want to see Luke or Vader? How you'd need to sell your TV to afford the characters you want to play with, but at that point, you can't see them, because you have no TV... remember? You don't? Ah... too busy pre-ordering their next title, are you? Yeah.
Well, way back when, in a dark time no one remembers anymore, a guy who went by the name of Conner Rust made some calculations and found that it would take almost 40 hours of gameplay to unlock a certain character, and he alley-ooped those findings to Reddit, who promptly flipped the hell out, and with good reason; screw EA. Well, EA is now trying to make good, it seems, with an official post offering up the following info:
“Along with these changes, we’ve also unlocked all currently available Heroes and Hero Ships for everyone,” community manager Mat “Sledgehammer70” Everett said in an official post, while silently praying to god that he wouldn't earn the ire of the internet. “With all characters now having a Unit Level, we don’t want to limit anyone’s chance to progress as we change the way you interact with these characters.”
After downloading the small patch, players will get the Cloud City of Bespin as a map for Blast Mode, Heroes v. Villains, and Arcade Mode, and the patch also unlocks All the ability-granting Star Cards in the single player Arcade Mode, so players can check out other loadouts. Who would even want to try that? Crazy.
All of this is, of course, a very transparent way to try and earn some goodwill back after screwing over thousands of loyal fans, and I am sure it's working. Someone, somewhere, can't even remember what EA did this time... or last time, or the time before.... oh, look! You can pre-order their next title at gamespot! Better get in there.
