It's been hard to stay excited for this title after two years of delays, but it looks like we are finally going to get Overkill's The Walking Dead, the four player, cooperative, Payday esque zombie FPS.
The Walking Dead is set in Washington, D.C. as an outbreak brings the dead back to life (duh). In this test of strategy and endurance, players will band together with up to three friends on a variety of missions and raids, securing supplies and survivors to strengthen their base camp against the threat of both the dead and the living - by any means necessary. Each playable character has their own skill trees, squad roles, play styles and background stories. Now they all share a common objective where survival and teamwork is paramount. The action is up-close and intense: take out enemies carefully with silent melee attack or go in guns blazing. You need to be able to improvise as nothing is certain and a horde of walkers is always right around the corner.
This new trailer definitely sets the tone for an emotional and action packed adventure, but then again, remember the trailer for Dead Island? Damn that looked good! Man, it wasn't! Let's hope we don't get a repeat here, because the tone of this trailer is great, and although we still don't have any gameplay (getting nervous over here...), we do have a character trailer for Maya, who looks to be an ex-nurse or doctor. It's always the medical staff that gets it worst, isn't it? You got that hippocratic oath keeping you in the office all day, and before you know it, you're overrun with zombies that you medically don't believe in. Whoops. At least her skill tree will be healing based, if she can make it out of the hospital...
The first character trailer released last week is below, which is just as bleak, but somehow, a little more fun as well. Check them both out below, and keep an eye out for The Walking Dead, which should launch fall of this year.
