I've loved miniature wargaming ever since I discovered it way back in the late 1980’s. I was hooked almost immediately, and my first love has been an enduring one; my very first rulebook was Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader and I still love that universe to this day. I am always looking for the next coolest thing, however, and the folks over at Playwood Project have a project in development called Wartile that looks like it could be just as amazing as any tabletop wargame out there.
Wartile is set in the time of the vikings and you'll be controlling a band of vicious Norsemen. Each unit can either move or attack, but once they commit to an action, a cool down timer begins, adding another level of strategy and some interesting possibilities to the combat. Do you move all of your units up and wait until the cool down timer is through so you can act or react to a situation? Or do you keep one unit in reserve in order to attack units that are in the field on the fly?
What I also love about the game is the insane amount of detail that's already gone into it. Each of the missions looks like a traditional game board with a wooden base for the map and a ridiculous amount of detailed terrain and miniatures on it. It's as if you were playing a miniatures wargame right on your tabletop. They call these "diorama battle boards" and they look absolutely stunning. Take a look at the screens below to see what I'm talking about.
Wartile is currently in Early Access, and you can get more information over at www.wartile.com.
