Just when we'd calmed down from the Hellboy table top game announcement, here comes this thing scratching and scrabbling for my money. I don't think I've ever met anybody who doesn't appreciate Batman: The Animated Series and for good reason; this show babysat me more times than the lady down the street, and it taught life lessons like morals, friendship, perseverance, and that if you get enough pendulum-like momentum, you can swing from a rope and smash through any size or thickness of glass. So perk up people; this could very well be, as the kids say, quite legit.
Batman: The Animated Series- Gotham Under Siege is the first in a planned series of games based on the series, and is set to launch this summer, IDW Games announced. Designed by Richard Launius (Planet of the Apes) alongside co-designer Michael Guigliano, the game "puts players in the role of Gotham’s heroes as they use dice allocation and threat management to defend the city against henchmen and bosses, and fight to save the city from being destroyed." Batman is perpetually keeping Gotham from being destroyed. He's a man like that.
Gotham City will be represented with 3D buildings, miniatures and "other board game elements", and while I can't speak for everyone, I'm all about them elements. The miniature figures feature Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Montoya and Commissioner Gordon, and remember that this is the animated version, so you won't see Batwoman swinging around, and I doubt we'll be seeing the Red Hood anywhere either.
Batman: The Animated Series- Gotham Under Siege is set for release in August, and IDW is already cracking away on future animated Batman games, with settings that are "new and still familiar". I'm thinking... Metropolis? Or maybe just Killer Croc's sewers. We'll find out, and in the meantime, head over to IDW's site for all the details.
