Personally, I hated the Resident Evil films. I thought the first was so-so, and the rest were crap, the perfect example of how Hollywood does not understand games. The movies themselves might not have been so bad, had they not been called Resident Evil, but I wanted (and still want) a decent, true Resident Evil movie, where things are actually scary with scenes of action and gore interspersed throughout. I want the tension, the low-ammo fright fest where you have no idea what's coming and no idea where you are going. It's the same deal with The Walking Dead: I want at least the spirit of the source material, and instead, they give us the opposite. The fact that the series has made millions and millions of dollars is not lost on me. Dammit, people. Demand better.
The untitled Monster Hunter movie (it will most likely be called "Monster Hunter") begins production in September, featuring the actress/director duo that ruined Resident Evil. The film has a $60 million budget and will be shot in South Africa, Variety rently reported. Constantin, the film company behind the upcoming film envisions the movie as the first in a series. Yaaaaay (that "yay" was sarcastic, kids, try and keep up). So far, there have been no reports of when the film is expected to release, however, the reports that Resident Evil as a film series has made over a billion dollars continues to shock, depress and amaze local writer for DLH.net.
