At first glance, this kind of looks like the story of Daredevil, without the costume. On second glance, you realize that the "heavily story driven" title, Punch Club, where a young boy's pugilist father is shot and killed by gangsters for throwing a fight, is a lot like the story of Daredevil, without the costume. Still, a good story is a good story.
After your father is unceremoniously gunned down in the street, now is the time to "train hard, eat chicken and punch dudes in the face to earn your place in the Punch Club ranks, and discover who ended your father's life." At least your training regimen is straight forward...
Punch Club is a boxing tycoon management game with multiple branching story lines to follow, and a lot of fights to train for. Billed as a fighter management sim with RPG and tycoon elements, this "heavily story driven" title encourages you to find out who killed your father, and maybe learn something about yourself along the way. The game leans hard on its pixelated visuals and 80-90s references and nostalgia, and lets you get as deep or shallow as you want with the stats, with extensive skill trees and branching upgrade paths in the form of different fighting styles.
Also, you break up liquor store robberies and own a cat. Awwwww!
Take a look at the retro video below, Punch Club is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 24th.
