Paramount and developer Saber Interactive are still working on a World War Z title, but does anyone really care? I mean, the movie was a thing, but it was back in what? 2013? And wasn't it reviewed pretty poorly? Funny, these guys missed the hype that the movie drummed up, then they missed the entire zombie craze as well. Way to be on the ball, guys.
Mean spirited asshole comments for no reason aside, the game is still coming and it's actually going to arrive this year for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One. This new trailer gives us a look at the gameplay, which, as you might imagine, involves cutting through hordes of zombies with automatic weapons. The trailer focuses on Moscow, a "city beyond redemption," and a heavily fortified one at that. They've got mounted 50 caliber machine guns, barricades and barbed wire, and they look prepared, right up until the swarm hits. Then, it looks like they're effed.
World War Z will primarily be a four player co-op title, set all around the world, and although it's too early to throw judgments around, let's do it anyways, because it's fun. To me, this looks like a lot of concentrated choke-point type situations, where, much like the movie, firing into a writing mass of undead flesh just doesn't appear that fun. We don't know yet if the game will have us setting up defensive positions or just defending them, but time will tell. We've yet to get a truly stellar successor to Left 4 Dead, so here's hoping that this can fill the void.
World War Z is headed our way later this year.
