A lot of people have forgotten just how bad Batman games were before Rocksteady rocketed Bats back to the top with the Arkham games. Before that, there were maybe one or two acceptable titles, one of which being the animated adaptation for SNES. Yeah. The good ones were few and far between.

Superman has had an arguably more beleaguered history, even though he has produced way fewer titles. Everyone knows about Superman 64, which is quite often referred to as the worst game of all time, and besides that, ol Supes has mainly been relegated to side scrolling beat em ups and fighting games, most notably the Injustice series, which is pretty damn good. Still, that's no solo title, so when a leak from 4chan of all places began to spread, people started getting pumped, even though 4chan is mainly a garbage site that feeds refuse to trash people. However, the rumor is so tasty, I have to admit that I am trying to contain my most likely misplaced hope as well.

As the rumor goes, not only will Rocksteady be responsible for the new Superman title, it will be set in their own Arkham universe, with events from the Batman title having a noticeable effect on the timeline of the Superman world (think seeing a building blown up by Joker in Batman Arkham City shown in the Superman game). Beyond that, the anonymous poster claims that the game will be using the Unreal engine, it will have a large open world version of Metropolis, the ability to play as Superman and not Kent, Brainiac taking center stage as the main villain, a somewhat nerfed Superman depending on situation, various skins that will offer up different playable power and skill sets, flying integrated into the combat, and a map that is about 3 times the size of the Arkham Knight map.

So far these are just rumors, but it's hard not to think about what Rocksteady could mean to the Superman universe. If something like this is actually going on, we'll hopefully get more info at this year's E3, which kicks off June 12th.
