Everyone's favorite game company to complain about while still supporting is giving you another reason to hate; EA is shutting down Visceral Games, the studio behind Battlefield Hardline and Dead Space, among others, the publisher recently reported. As a consequence, the Star Wars game that's been in development at Visceral will see some major changes, and will be handed off to a different studio.
In a recent blog post, EA executive vice president Patrick Söderlund had this to say about the future of the game and the studio: “Our Visceral studio has been developing an action-adventure title set in the Star Wars universe. In its current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game. Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design.”
If you can make your way through all that jargon, it sounds like the story driven Star Wars title that has been in the works since 2013 is dead, and although they are scavenging from it's bones, we will see it in a very different form. He also added that Visceral will be “ramping down and closing” and that EA is in the process of "shifting as many of the team as possible to other projects and teams at EA.”
He also mentioned that the game will be looking at a new time frame, and that they won't be making their late 2019 release date.
