Call of Cthulhu, the official videogame inspired by Chaosium's pen and paper RPG, just keep looking better and better, in terms of setting, narrative and scope. Let's hope that the gameplay follows suit.
We got a brand new trailer today, which shows off more of the reality bending world you'll be walking into as Private Investigator Edward Pierce, who is sent to look into the tragic death of the Hawkins family in their sprawling mansion on the isolated Darkwater Island, off the shores of Boston. Between the dirty, unfriendly locals and less than inspiring police reports, it quickly becomes clear that there's more to the case than meets the eye. Soon enough, Pierce is plunged into a terrifying world of conspiracies, cultists, and cosmic horrors, with his sanity being called into question as the Lovecraftian craziness unfolds.
You'll encounter strange creatures, weird science, and shadowy cults that dominate the Cthulhu Mythos, who, like the best cults do, have mad schemes that will bring about the end of everything. You'll have to walk a thin line between sanity and madness as your senses are assaulted and disrupted by the "reality" you face, build up four skill trees and solve the mystery of the island, which will change and branch depending on how you deal with the inhabitants you come across while you are working your case.
Check out the trailer below, which shows off a little gameplay; Call of Cthulhu releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
