Appearing to operate a lot like XCOM, this upcoming title from developer The Bearded Ladies and publisher Funcom keeps looking better and better. Mixing stealth, humor, exploration and gunfire, each mutant you control has their own special abilities to unlock, like Selma's stone-skin, Bormin's ability to unleash a charge attack, and "Dux‘ uncanny ability to sneak into a camp full of enemies unnoticed, despite being a 4-foot tall walking, talking duck with a crossbow."
You'll get all the turn-based, tactical combat you can handle (even the website says that the system is inspired by the XCOM games), plus the ability to explore a post-human world of abandoned cities, crumbling highways, and overgrown countrysides. There's a central hub called the Ark, where you can restock your supplies, speak with NPCs and plan out your next adventure. Stealth elements are a must to sneak up on an enemy or just avoid tough enemies, while using the environment to your advantage, but avoiding floodlights and enemies' lines of sight, plus the usual XCOM type stuff, like blowing up destructible walls, barrels and more.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is continuing to shape up into something that looks pretty special. There's enough new stuff to keep you from yelling "ripoff!" and enough XCOM looking stuff to get you salivating.
No release date has been set yet aside from a 2018 window, when we know more, so will you. In the meantime, watch the gameplay trailer below.
