After a lot of bad press, like the ex-CEO suing the company and Telltale laying off a quarter of their workers, the story-driven game company now has some news that should make gamers happy. People have been clamoring for an engine change for some time, and it's no big surprise, given that they've been using the same tech since the inception of the studio. The engine has looked dated for a while now, and especially with some series, like Batman, there were glitches and issues that were just inexcusable in that kind of high caliber release. It sounds like the time has finally come to get an engine that can keep up with the dynamite story telling this studio brings to the table, which is considerable. After almost 14 years and some thirty-odd games, it looks like it's time to drop the Telltale tool engine, as reported by resetera, who found a plethora of wanted ads looking for people who have experience using the Unity engine, which is presumably what Telltale will be switching to.
It's been a good run, Telltale. You did a hell of a lot with a beat up, old ass engine from 2004. But with The Walking Dead: The Final Season set to release episode one on August 14, this might be the last hurrah for the engine, which means that Stranger Things, The Wolf Among Us S2 and others may benefit from a whole new look. And that's definitely a good thing for gamers.
