When Mushroom Wars 2 dropped last year, we liked it quite a bit, giving it an 82%. Our reviewers liked the cartoony style and calming visuals and music, and they appreciated the easy to pick up difficult to master style, but wished there would have been a bit more to the story and some additional unit varieties. Now, Switch owners can get their RTS on with cute little mushrooms.
Mushroom Wars 2 is the sequel to the popular 2009 RTS, and the game delivers more of the same with some new twists and upgrades. You take control of one of three types of mushroom "races", and then get to work producing troops, upgrading buildings and destroying all mushrooms who oppose you. There is a pretty bare-bones story running through the campaign, but it has ton of missions and, of course, the real meat is in the multiplayer. The Multiplayer maps involve three types of game modes, Conquest, Domination, and King of the Hill, while Custom games allow you to pick and chose which of these you'll run into.
The first full-blown RTS for the Switch, Mushroom Wars 2 offers over 90 multiplayer maps, cross-platform capability, a player-base of 1.8 million players worldwide to challenge, and even a spectator mode to allow players to pick-up tips from the pros.
"When the Nintendo Switch launched, we knew it was the perfect platform for the Mushroom Wars universe," says Andrey Korotkov, CEO of Zillion Whales. "The fact that battles in Mushroom Wars 2 are fast-paced means you can hop in and out of combat while waiting for a bus, a meeting, or even for the pizza delivery person (though, maybe skip the extra mushrooms this time) with the Switch's portability!"
