The last Devil May Cry reboot didn't do a lot for me. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay was tight and the combat was fast and furious, as per usual. My problem was with the reboot itself. DMC 4 was, in my opinion, the pinnacle of the series, despite making you play as Nero instead of Dante. Still, Nero's arm grabber thing was an enjoyable new mechanic, and the story was better than most DMC games, albeit drenched in the usual "sexiness" which ends up just kind of grating on me after a while. It's like every time Dante pulls out a pistol, 15 people are having an orgasm. It's just never been my thing, despite how much I've enjoyed the series, and I was bummed that they decided to reboot the whole thing, right when the story in DMC 4 was finally getting a little substance than the usual, "I'm Dante, I'm sexy, demons are bad."
So imagine my surprise when I heard that the newest DMC is a direct sequel to Devil May Cry 4, instead of a sequel to the reboot, which was just called Devil May Cry. Set a few years after the events of Devil May Cry 4, Nero is now running a mobile demon hunting agency out of his van, and has been gifted the neon Devil May Cry sign from Dante, so his ass kicking is official. Nero also has an even cooler looking arm now, called the Devil Breaker, and it has even more features than it did that last time around.
Devil May Cry 5 is currently going for a 2019 release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it will be the first "main" Devil May Cry sequel since 2008.
