A Brief Discussion On COD:WWIIVideo Game News Online, Gaming News

It has been eight years since we played the last Call of Duty set in World War II, and I have some thoughts on the current Call of Duty WWII title. The game takes us to the greatest conflict of all time, from the Normandy landings to crossing the Rhine, with new multiplayer modes, Nazi zombies and the usual minor tweaks and upgrades.

The game blasts out of the gate with an almost overwhelming opening for what looks to be a promising campaign. The saga seems prepped to breaks some molds, albeit using some of the series well-known features, like amazing graphics, beautiful cinematography and a pounding soundtrack interspersed with low moody tones, weaving high tension with the abject brutality of a march to those European lands in conflict. Perhaps one of the most striking things in the newest entry to the series is the use of the new system of HDR colors, obviously only appreciable for those who have a screen with this feature, although those who do not have it will also be able to fully enjoy the evolution that WWII represents with respect to previous games.

Although in a lot of ways the game is just business as usual, Call of Duty WWII presents some small changes in order to refresh the formula. The most significant change is found in the gameplay, which opts to be a more strategic and grounded game (literally) due to the exclusion of air jumps and speed of the last titles. Offering frantic confrontations where finding cover plays a huge role due to the decision to eliminate the automatic regeneration of health, the gameplay feels more fast paced and taking damage feels more dire. Finally, the graphics Sledgehammer presents are quite striking. These guys really went all out, creating these real locations with ease, and the combat looks even grittier than usual.

In all, this game is more of the same, with some polish. Much like Madden, we expect these games about once a year, with just enough upgrades to "justify" a full release, while often knowing that these titles could almost be DLC. We're doing a playthough now, and we'll give you some updated criticism and see how the title is holding up.
