During the Tekken Masters Top 8 tournament in Tokyo, we got some great news from Bandai Namco concerning the next season of Tekken, mainly a confirmation that it would kick off September 6th, and will be including a couple of new characters. No, it's not time for Negan yet, sorry. But we are getting two fan favorites: Anna Williams and Lei Wulong.
Lei started off as a not so subtle homage to Jackie Chan, most notably Chan's 90's film, Super Cop. Lei's backstory is a police officer who is really good at his job, so good, in fact, that he receives the nickname "Super Police" (I told you it wasn't very subtle). Lei investigates the Mishima Zaibatsu corporation's illegal activities, and he ends up joining the fighting tournament year after year, to catch criminals, stop them from killing animals, and other Tekken ridiculousness.
Anna, on the other hand is the sister of Tekken fighter Nina, and she and Nina were taught martial arts by their father, a former assassin Richard Williams since they were young, but Anna was also trained by her mother as well, which is why their fighting styles are somewhat different, but still share a good amount of the same base moves. When Richard died under mysterious circumstances the sisters blamed each other, leading to a long-standing rivalry between them. Both sisters eventually went their separate ways, with Nina using her skills to become an assassin, and Anna joining the paramilitary and becoming an officer in the Tekken Force.
As far as footage, we've got a clip below, courtesy of YouTuber Bigdaddyjende. They look pretty similar in moves and appearance, but boy are those graphics smoooooooooth....
