We've finally got our Geralt for the upcoming Witcher series, and it's Henry Cavill. I must admit, friends and neighbors in gaming, I don't know what to think about the casting.
If you don't know, the upcoming Witcher series is based on the games, which are based on a series of fantasy novels. Geralt of Rivia is a witcher, a monster hunter who travels around kicking ass, but dealing with that age old problem of only being wanted when he's needed, then going back to being shunned and feared when he isn't. It's a tough life out there for a witcher.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will be serving as the executive producer and showrunner on the series, and she has done some minor but important work before, mainly writing scripts for shows like Daredevil, and the Defenders. Alik Sakharov will direct four episodes beginning with the first, and Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström will trade off directing the rest.
Henry Cavill isn't my least favorite actor, but I'll admit that I haven't seen a lot of stuff that he's been in outside of the DC flicks, “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and “Justice League," all of which made me sad inside on the whole. Still, I think his Superman is fine, it's just the script that sucks on all those movies. And the directing. And some of the special effects. Sigh. Damn you, DC.
I was kicking around reddit this morning and reading some comments about people who are pumped at this decision, and those who are a bit more skeptical. However, someone mentioned this scene, and I think it bears mentioning here. The argument was that with a beard and the hair, Cavill could pull this off, using the voice he used when Supes went psycho amnesiac during the resurrection scene in Justice League. Skip to 3:25 to see how his voice could work for Geralt.
What do you guys think? Think this could work out, or will this lead casting tank the series? Lemme know in the comments.
