This is great stuff, mainly because I hate the way the industry has been monetized. Then again, as I have mentioned many times on this site and others, we are the ones at fault here, not necessarily the industry. We set the precedent, we decide what the industry standards are, and we tell these companies what is and what is not acceptable every single day, with pre-orders with how we spend our money, and which companies we choose to give it to.

That said, it's great to see someone like Joan Blachere, the communications manager at Dead Cells developer Motion Twin, stepping up and calling things what they are, throwing in her 2 cents on an industry-wide issue. Here's what she said:

“We now know that loot boxes can potentially make players develop a form of addiction, much like gambling,” Blachere said while speaking to GamingBolt. “Since kids are a major part of the target audience for video games, I can see why it’s problematic without at least a very big warning to parents. I’m super-happy to see that all the drama has had an impact on the industry and made this economic model a no-go for many publishers and studios.”

This all more or less started last year with the immense bullshit of Star Wars: Battlefront 2, which kicked off a storm of anger and gamer backlash, and has EA re-evaluating their way of doing business in the future (at least, they say they are). Hopefully, those who don't co-sign to these bullshit practices will continue to make their voices heard, and more importantly, we, as gamers, will take a bigger stance against them, not just by bitching, but by actually supporting companies who respect us, and boycotting those who don't until they shape up.

Dead Cells is available now.
