Everyone is always trying to raise a Cthulhu, or set one loose on an unsuspecting world, or use it to gain demonic immortality, and I'm just always sitting back saying, "what are you doing? How is a giant tentacle monster going to help any given situation?"

Yet the cultists persist, and a Cthulhu is raised, and everything falls to shit, the cultists are always shocked when they are eaten, or dismembered, or fall into an endless chasm, and then someone has to step in and try to fix everything. Give it a rest, you dicks. People are trying to sleep over here, and we don't need a giant crack running down main street, opening an interdimensional gateway to hell.

In Call of Cthulhu , players assume the role of private investigator Edward Pierce as he tries to figure out who is trying to screw the world over this time. You'll have upgradeable skills, and they will be used in a pretty cool way. You'll actually use your detective skills in your investigations, drawing meaningful conclusions, unlocking additional topics and questions in dialogues as you try to convince the cliche distrustful locals of Darkwater to reveal what they know. To this end, you'll use your Eloquence and Psychology skills, while Pierce's strength skill will help you kick ass when diplomacy fails, or to intimidate impressionable people into telling you whatever they’re hiding.

Expertise in Medicine and Occultism, on the other hand, will grant you some bad ass powers, so the cultists won't be the only ones having fun. You pump these skills by discovering unique books and artifacts throughout the investigation, but knowledge can be a curse in Call of Cthulhu, as the more aware Pierce is made of the horrors that dwell beyond the fabric of reality, the more he will fall to insanity, impeding his ability to draw logical conclusions.

I am excited to see how this is all going to play out, and I will soon, too; Call of Cthulhu releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 30.
