Lucasfilm just announced that a new virtual reality Star Wars series called Vader Immortal will be out for the Oculus Quest in 2019, and although we don't get a lot to go on, we are stoked.
Coming from ILMxLAB, a Lucasfilm property that specializes in VR, the all-new three part series will exist within the known Star Wars universe, and looks like it will be canon. Then again, it would almost be better if it wasn't, so we could do something cool with Vader besides scream "noooooooooo!" after choking out Padme. But I digress.
Writer and producer David S. Goyer tteased teased the product at a panel in 2016, and had this to say:
“It exists within the Star Wars universe, it involves characters that you know or some that may have been talked about but you haven’t seen before and it will be adding to the existing canon. So we’ve got the entire Star Wars universe at our disposal. What planet do we want to be on, what location, what character is so iconic that we need to know more about this character?”
The description seems a bit odd, since we know most of what has gone down with Vader, from his baby-podracing days to his aforementioned spousal abuse. Still, if you are looking for a VR experience, you could do a lot worse than choking people with your mind and chopping them in half with a laser sword.
