Just in time for the 30th anniversary (and the brand spanking new Mega Man 11), Capcom has decided to release an interesting little piece of news; Mega Man is going to be a live action flick. I am going to go out on a limb and guess that most people will react to this news like I am, with a rollercoaster like "Oh, hell yeah! Oh, no! They're going to botch the hell out of this!" They always do, don't they?
However, the movie will be written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3), so luckily that makes no sense whatsoever. Developed by 20th Century Fox, Capcom had the following to say, which means almost nothing: Capcom said they want to "appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for." That's.... really great, Capcom. That's good.
This could be super interesting though, as there is so much to draw from here; you could go old school with Wily and Dr. Light, bring Sigma and Zero into the mix, or even throw Bass in there. You've got the X series, the original series, Mega Man Adventures... there's a ton to draw from. Most likely they are going to mash and smash everything together and make a Frankenstein abomination of a film that will neither satisfy fans of the game or fans of action, or movies, because Hollywood knows best.
No release date has been set, but in the meantime, remember when Mega Man Universe was going to be a thing?
