This game has us all pumped, especially since we've been digging back into XCOM 2 lately. This game looks like it takes the best parts of XCOM and lays its own spin on it, with stealth and a giant duck. If you're confused, check it out. Lesson time.
Mutant Year Zero: Return to Eden basically combines the turn-based tactical combat of XCOM with story and exploration (drawing heavily off the table top game, which is just called "Mutant Year Zero"), and features real-time stealth and strategy systems. You take control of a team of Mutants navigating a post-human world of abandoned towns and cities, eroded streets, and overgrown landscape, with combat that has been described by the developers as similar to XCOM: War of the Chosen. Like XCOM, you can retreat back to the Ark to restock supplies and prepare for the next outing with a variety of weapons and armor to equip yourself with.
Further, each character has three sets of mutated abilities they can choose from: major, minor, and passive. One ability from each group can be active at any given time, and can be changed as long as the characters are not locked into combat. Each mutation is designed to be better or worse against certain types of enemies, so players have to think about their choices and actions before engaging in combat.
In this latest dev video, we've got 20 uninterrupted minutes of gameplay, and it is looking good. Watch the game in action below, Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden releases on the 4th of December.
