I can't believe they are making a friggin remastered re-release of this instead of a brand new game, but I can only hope that they are going to use this to gauge interest for a new title. I'll grant that the game does look pretty good, especially since the original release was back in 2001.
Onimusha was kind of like a cross between Devil May Cry and Resident Evil. The backgrounds were pre-rendered, the camera was fixed angle, and the plot was pretty ridiculous. Set in the Sengoku period and focusing on the samurai Samanosuke Akechi, the story surrounds a plot by the forces of Nobunaga Oda, who, despite being thought dead, is still affecting the area, as his demonic minions and evil partners are causing trouble, notably kidnapping Princess Yuki. It's up to you to slay all the demons, get the princess back and figure out what the hell is going on with Nobunaga, who is a complete asshat.
You can check out the launch trailer below, Onimusha: Warlords releases in Japan on December 20, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The West will get the game on January 15, 2019, and on PC via Steam on January 15, 2019 in all regions.
