Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is an upcoming role-playing strategy game developed by CD Projekt RED, who have basically been turning everything they touch into solid gold. After the success of The Witcher, they knocked it out of the park with GWENT, which now has its own tournaments, for God's sake. Thronebreaker is a single-player spin-off of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, and it's planned to drop in a couple weeks, on October 23rd, 2018. So a spin-off of a spin-off of an adaptation of a novel. Damn.
The game combines point-and-click adventure game elements with strategy card games and visual novels, in a genre mashup that looks pretty ambitious. You play from a top-down perspective, and control Queen Meve, roaming freely around the map, completing quests, and smashing on your enemies, while gathering resources like as gold, wood, and recruits which are used to maintain and expand your marauding army.
Here's the official description: The world stands on the verge of chaos, as the tensions between the power-hungry Nilfgaardian Empire and proud Northern Realms grow. Facing an imminent invasion, Meve — war-veteran Queen of Lyria and Rivia — is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.
Check out the gameplay below, it's almost 40 solid minutes worth and you can get a real feel for the look of the game, and of course, the gameplay itself.
