Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was pretty crappy. Now, the series was never going to be a true contender like Marvel vs SNK, or even the straight Street Fighter series, but the game had a large following and for a button masher, it was pretty damn fun, mainly leaning on an eclectic roster to carry the shortcomings of the title.

However, the newest entry in the series totally disappointed, and there were a lot of reasons why. Mechanically, technically, the game is sound, and plays as it should. But not only was the floatier style of control harped on by fans, there were a slew of screw-ups: the story was a total mess, making very little sense, even for a bombastic fighter like this. Some nonsense about Umbrella joining with AIM (AIMBrella?), and Zero getting reprogrammed, so he's a bad guy now, and then the heroes go to friggin Thanos to help them recover the infinity gems... it's kind of a nightmare. Add to that the complete omission of the X-Men, a change in the ultimate system, the incomplete launch and more, and you've got a bunch of pissed off gamers.

Now, if the rumors can be trusted (and they can't, but who knows?) according to Redditor DasVergeben, Capcom and Marvel are trying to pull a pretty unprecedented about-face to bring players back into the fold (and away from rival Injustice 2, which has gotten rave reviews) and it sounds like they are taking it to the hilt, possibly rebranding the whole thing, switching it to Marvel vs. Capcom 4. Why they chose to throw "Infinite" in there in the first place is a little perplexing; obviously the infinity stones are involved, and maybe they were hoping to cash in on the upcoming film, but it comes out of nowhere, and then what? The next game is just MvC 4? Stupid.

We'll know soon enough, but what do you think? Is this enough to bring fans back or has the damage been done? Lemme know in the comments.
