Microsoft, probably full of pants-wetting fear of all the battle royal games and modes hitting the market, just made Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (aka PUBG) free to download on Xbox One today, although they did announce that it is “free for a limited time”. Head over to the Microsoft Store and get yours right now, as there hasn't been any word on just how limited this limited time offer is. If you're interested, I'd act fast, as this broken, incomplete, unfinished, forever early access title was retailing for about thirty bucks when it initially dropped.
PUBG is a PvP action game where up to 100 players fight it out in a battle royale, which is basically a large-scale, last man standing death-match, where players fight to be the last man standing. Players can choose to enter the match solo, or with a small team of up to four people, working together to kill everyone else. Regardless, the last person (or team) left standing wins the match.
Each match begins with players parachuting from a plane onto a map area. and all players start with no gear beyond their clothing selections which do not affect gameplay. Once they hit the ground, players can search buildings, and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, and other equipment. These items are procedurally distributed throughout the map at the start of a match, with certain high-risk zones typically having better equipment.
PUBG is out now on Xbox One.
