11 bit studios' bleak (and I do mean bleak) survival game, This War of Mine, is dropping a complete edition for the Switch, which has been continuously expanded since its launch in 2014 with new stories, scenarios, more civilians, additional locations, and now, kids!
I'm not trying to be glib, this game is hardcore and takes a very real view on the hellish conditions that war creates for civilians. Children are playable in the DLC update, "The Little Ones," in addition to the story-driven DLC, "Father's Promise". Rounding out the downloadable content available for the already expanded game, the "War Child" DLC was added that continues to raise funds for the UK based charity of the same name, which focuses their efforts on helping children living in war zones.
The game has you controlling survivors who are struggling to survive with a lack of food and medicine while under constant danger from hostile scavengers and snipers. TWoM is a unique experience where you don't play as an elite, Rambo style soldier, instead, you take on the role of a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city, which allows you to experience war from an entirely new angle.
The game's pacing is restricted by a day and night cycle; during the day, snipers will stop you from leaving your refuge, requiring players to focus on hideout maintenance: craft, trade, and take care of your survivors. At night, you'll choose one of your civilians to be sent out on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help the group stay alive.
This War of Mine: Complete Edition is $39.99 and includes "The Little Ones" DLC, "Father's Promise" DLC, and all expansions that have been released, plus all future DLC for free.
