Looking for something to play with your B on Valentine's Day? Maybe trying to get something a little more substantial for your $20, besides an appetizer at some ritzy-ass restaurant that you didn't even want to go to? You may be in luck, as Modus Games and developer Moondrop just announced their 2D puzzle platformer, Degrees of Separation, is landing on the Switch, the PS4, Steam and Xbox One on February 14, 2019. That's right, it's a co-Op, relationship adventure that doesn't even require you to leave the house!
And it's not just some thrown together nonsense, either; Degrees of Separation's narrative was crafted by industry veteran and games writer Chris Avellone, known for his past work on Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, and Neverwinter Nights 2! Talking mad pedigree over here!
Featuring dual protagonists named Ember and Rime, one manipulates heat, the other cold, and players must learn to master their respective temperatures as you make your way through the 2D world. The game tackles themes of closeness and separation, and you'll explore a non-linear world that encourages players to experiment and interact with the environment around them, making use of Ember and Rime's polar opposite skill-sets while trying to achieve common goals.
For example, you can use Ember to melt a river, but if that doesn't work, Rime can always freeze it again, or Ember can start a fire while Rime can put one out. You'll have to think creatively about how to use each character's unique talents to make your way through the puzzles that await you.
Give the trailer below a watch, the game looks beautiful.
