According to a report from Game Informer, PlayStation is completely skipping E3 2019 for the first time in the 24 year history of the gaming convention.

Sony had this to say about the move, stating, “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community. PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

This is is the second event that Sony has brushed off lately, with the first being the PlayStation Experience in early December. Shawn Layden, chairman of worldwide studios for Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that "We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it. It was a hard decision,” basically saying that they just don't have enough cool stuff to justify an entire event.

Rumors have been swirling lately that Sony is working hard on the Playstation 5, and the rumors have rocked those without the capacity to think. Who would have thought that a PS5 would be on the way, a scant 5 years after the PS4 dropped? Truly, truly shocking stuff. Cue screaming mouth breathers on the internet talking about how unfair it is because they, "Just bought a PS pro!" as if this somehow negates the pro's usefulness, price or game selection.

The move to skip the gaming conference isn't unprecedented; Nintendo made waves when they ducked out in 2013, coincidentally the same year that the PS4 dropped. Keep an eye on the news, I'm sure we'll be getting more info on Sony's upcoming moves soon.
