This Is The Police was a lot of fun when we reviewed it last year. While not a perfect title, we gave it very high marks (87%) and now it's coming to mobile, so you can fight corruption and negotiate with the mob while on your morning commute when it arrives on Android and iOS platforms on December 13th 2018. Here's what we had to say about the PC version:
"This is the Police is a very tense and well-made game. Every action and reaction you commit has some kind of effect on your overall job, and discovering the myriad ways the game unfolds is this a lot of fun. Being a good cop in this game is very, very difficult, and being a total dirtbag on the take has its own pitfalls as well. This is the Police not for the fickle or weak of heart, however; the game requires a ton of concentration, and things quickly mount up. After a while, you realize that you’re just barely hanging on."
You take on the role of Jack Boyd, a grumpy Police Chief of Freeburg PD who must find a way to get his hands on $500,000 in 180 days, which is when he will be forced to retire. Jack has to juggle dealing with the Mafia, crooked corrupt cops, seedy politicians, and even some members of the clergy who are, in a complete departure from real life, not all super nice guys.
The mobile version of This is the Police will be published by HandyGames, who are rocking the legit motto: "Buy once, play forever. Even offline."
I respect HandyGames, and I think this statement from their CEO nails exactly why:
"HandyGames has been a part of the mobile market for over 18 years now. We've made and sold many games on various platforms all over the world, with our future now being in the premium game space. Our upcoming releases will focus on that model - and if a game is a premium title, that means no lootboxes, no in-app purchases, no adds, no gambling," says Christopher Kassulke, CEO, HandyGames.
When it's released on December 13th, This is the Police will be compatible with iOS 8 or better and Android 6 with 1.5 GB RAM or better, and will sell for $7.99.
