The newest entry in the SSB franchise is set to be the biggest of them all, with more stages and characters than any previous entry. All 63 characters are returning as playable characters, plus 11 newcomers have been confirmed as well. In addition to this already impressive roster, at least six characters (one known and five unknown) are planned as downloadable content, for a total of at least 74 characters total. Of course, you have to factor in variations like Pit/Dark Pit, Simon Belmont/Richter Belmont, 3 different Mii's. Pikachu/Pichu, Young Link/Toon Link, Mario/Dr. Mario, etc., but it's still a crap-ton of characters.
This latest trailer is really the intro for the single-player campaign and it looks like almost everyone is going the evil clone route except for Kirby. It appears that the world of SSB is relying solely on the lovable little jiggly-puff. Here's the synopsis from Nintendo:
"Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown—a new entry in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch system! New fighters, like Inkling from the Splatoon series and Ridley from the Metroid series, make their Super Smash Bros. series debut alongside every Super Smash Bros. fighter in the series…EVER! Faster combat, new items, new attacks, new defensive options, and more will keep the battle raging whether you’re at home or on the go."
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases December 7th of this year.
