Outward is a hardcore, survival RPG that combines fantasy elements with realism, and the realism gets pretty real, according to the dev diary (see below). Debilitating traps, deadly poisons and fierce magic are all core elements of your fighting strategy, but hang on, you impatient killer you; you won't start out with all them goodies. No, you'll need to travel far and wide throughout the game's dangerous world to unlock top notch skills and magic that will help you in your quest, and pay attention to minute details, like traps and your enemies' footing in a given terrain to make sure your strikes count.
The dev diary is pretty interesting, and it looks like they have spent a ton of time thinking over even mundane conflicts between you and weaker enemies, like wildlife and bandits. You'll also have to brave hazardous environmental conditions and protect yourself against infectious diseases, in addition to making sure you are well-rested and hydrated, for an in-depth survival experience.
